Assistant Headteacher
Job Title:Assistant Headteacher (Director of specialism)
Accountable to:Headteacher
Main Purpose
The Assistant Headteacher will:
- Undertake the normal responsibilities of the class teacher
- Be a member of the senior leadership team
- Assist the Headteacher in leading and managing the school
- Undertake such duties as are delegated by the Headteacher.
Main Tasks
Director of Specialism
As part of the Senior leadership Team, To fulfil the leadership and management function associated with the Specialist School initiative.
Leadership
To embody the strategic direction of the initiative
To represent the initiative at senior management level to ensure whole school support and appropriate allocation of resources; human and otherwise
To act as an advocate for the initiative both outside and inside school
To contribute to the relevant sections of the of the SDP and SEF.
To make a significant contribution to the vision relating to the initiative.
To provide a clear direction for the initiative that all staff can follow and contribute to
Management
In collaboration with the School Business manager, Direct and oversee the use of the initiative budget ensuring effective use of resources
To provide quality assurance for the initiative by monitoring progress in meeting targets and adopting intervention policies where appropriate
To set challenging but attainable short term targets in line with SDP targets
To ensure that student progress within the specialism target setting subjects is effectively monitored
To liaise with heads of specialist subjects to ensure that departments deliver their commitments regarding the initiative.
To liaise with and coordinate community partners to ensure the effective delivery of the community programme
To investigate and promulgate where appropriate new pedagogies and technologies
To ensure that a distinct ethos pertaining to the specialism is apparent in the school
To oversee and coordinate the use of external agents in the delivery of specialist subjects
To act as an engine for the spread of good practice arising from the initiative across the school.
To attend events designed to support the development of the initiative
To provide current data as required regarding the impact of the initiative
To organise and lead the monitoring of teaching and learning in the specialist focus subjects
Class teacher responsibilities
- To carry out duties of a school teacher as set out in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
- To carry out the duties of a general class teacher as detailed in the school’s class teacher job description, including some provision for cover of absent teachers as outlined in the schools “rarely cover” policy.
- To be responsible for teaching across both key stages.
