From September 2010 all admissions to schools in England will be co-ordinated by Local Authorities (LA). All applicants living within the Shropshire Local Authority boundary must either apply on line www.shropshire.gov.uk/schooladmissions or complete the appropriate Shropshire Council application form available from the Admissions Team 01743 254459. Applicants living in another English Local Authority area must use the application form from their home authority or their home authority's online facility. The Corbet School governors have agreed to operate a co-ordinated scheme with Shropshire Council and our admnissions policy is the same as all other North and South Shropshire schools. The Corbet has a published admissions figure of 135 pupils per year group.
The Admissions Team will inform the Corbet of any requests for places within the school and the Corbets Admissions Committee will consider the applications in accordance to the schools published policy. This decision will then be passed on to the Admissions Team.
Oversubscription Criteria
All rural secondary schools in the North and South Shropshire area all have a "catchment area". Priority will be given to children who live within the defined area. If you want more details of the catchment area for The Corbet School, please ring the Admissions Advisors on Shrewsbury 01743 254331, or access "Shropmap" on the Shropshire Council's website www.shropshire.gov.uk Please note that the definitive catchment are those offered by the Admission Team in the event of any disputes.
Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs which names a particular school will be allocated places. After which places are allocated according to an agreed set of criteria, in strict order of priority.
Priority 1: Looked After Children - Children in public care.
Priority 2: Children living within the defined Catchment Area - children living inside the catchment area will have second priority. If there are not enough places for all children living in the catchment area, we will look at the following criteria:
-
Priority will be given to children living within the catchment area who will have an older sibling at the school on the day they are due to start.
-
After that, priority will be given to those who live inside the catchement area.
Priority 3: Children living outside the defined catchment area - after that any places left will be offered to children who live outside the catchment area. if there are not enough places, we will look at the following criteria:
-
Priority will be given to children outside the catchment area who will have an older sibling at the school on the day they are due to start.
-
Pupils outside the catchment area without an older sibling, but who have attended a maintained Primary School that lies within the Corbets catchment area for more than a whole academic year immediatley prior to transfer.
-
After that, priority will be given to any other children who live outside the catchment area.
If, any of the above priority groups, there are more applicants than places available, priority will be given on the basis of distance from home to the nearest appropriate entrance gate of the school measured as a straight line on a computerised mapping system. The shortest distance being given priority. Where two addresses are within the same block of flats, the lowest number of flat or nearest the ground will be deemed to be the nearest in distance.
Where two or more applicants are considered to be equal priority after all the criteria have been taken into account, a tie breaker will be used. This will be a random allocation and overseen by an independant party not connected with the admissions process.
Please note:
We define living in the catchment area as follows:
A child will be treated as living in the catchment area if he/she resides with his parent or carer at his/her normal and genuine place of residence for the majority of the time and that address is within the designated catchment area for the school.
We define a sibling connection as folllows:
A sibling connectionis defined as a brother or sister, step-brother or step-sisiter, half-brother or half-sister of complusory school age, living at the same address as part of the family unit. Adopted siblings are also included. However, cousins or other relatives who take up residence in a home in order to establish an "in catchment area" address will not be included under the sibling criterion. Siblings must be attending the Corbet on the day that the younger sibling is due to start.
